Woods out the door, Boston down the road

Southborough is a small MetroWest town of reservoirs, stone walls and old trees. You can spend a whole weekend without starting the car. Or use it as a base: the town sits where I-495 meets the Mass Pike, so Boston is half an hour east and most of MetroWest is closer than that.

  • Sudbury Reservoir Trail

A short walk from the door. The trail links with the Boroughs Loop and the Aqueduct Trail, and is at its best in spring and autumn.

  • Chestnut Hill Farm

A working farm in Southborough cared for by The Trustees, with open-field and woodland trails that are lovely at the end of the day.

  • Hopkinton State Park

Minutes away, with swimming beaches, paddling and wooded loops. Hopkinton is also where the Boston Marathon begins each April.

  • Garden in the Woods

Native Plant Trust’s botanic garden in Framingham: woodland paths through one of the best native plant collections in the Northeast.

  • Downtown Southborough

A classic New England town center with good coffee and excellent restaurants nearby.

  • Boston

About 30 minutes to downtown for museums, Fenway, the Freedom Trail and the harbor. The Mass Pike takes you straight in.

  • I-495 and the Mass Pike

Southborough sits at the junction of I-495 and I-90, with Route 9 alongside. Worcester, the 495 tech corridor, Cape-bound routes and western Massachusetts are all a simple drive.

  • Westborough and Framingham

Neighboring towns with a deep bench of restaurants, shopping and everyday errands. A full grocery store is about seven minutes by car.

  • Bagels and a corner market

A breakfast café and a small market for wine, beer and basics are a few minutes’ walk away.
